[Shortly after this thread, he'll receive a text message from Kate.]
Hey there, it's Kate. Spoke with the Admin of this place. Got some answers, some not sure I believe, and some that I ain't sure I want to believe. And to go with that, I also believe that I told you I'd explain things once I knew more.
Let me know when you'd like to talk. I'll be around.
[meanwhile, this dork has been posting under the name of his own movie character. embarrassing.]
That was a lot faster than I'd expected! How'd the talk go? We've only exchanged a few words, but I get the sense from other people that it can be... well, interesting conversation.
Thanks, it's a nickname of mine from my fans. Could have used my own name, but I figure this is just as nice.
I'd say the talk went reasonably well, all things considered. The admin seems helpful, at least in the way that they apparently want things to stay calm and for people to not murder each other.
Unfortunately not. However, recently, I've found a different item that you might be interested in.
["Found" is such a nice word to use instead of, ah, "stolen", but perhaps they can get to that later.]
In regards to seeing if there's anything particularly supernatural attached to it, I mean. Are you interested? I want to investigate further, but I think judging whether or not it'll be detrimental to keep it close is a priority.
Hi Mister Natori, this is Falco. The chickens I asked for earlier started showing up. They look healthy and normal but I remember you wanted to know just in case it still happened.
That’s Agatha. She has two chicks that I named Casper and Clare. [ and then one of a tall, white rooster with . . . mean, bushy human eyebrows. ] The rooster’s name is Cuno. I think he looks this way because I asked for the males to be aggressive? I’m sorry about that. If you’d like to visit them to check if there’s anything wrong, I live in Sunderland Cottage.
Thank you for reading and if you need anything else, I’m free for most of the day. I’ll just be taking care of them.
🦅
[ with it are some loose directions if there’s any interest to visit! ]
Hi Falco! 🦅 Thanks for letting me know! I didn't know chickens could look like that! [Like Agatha, that is. Not even going to comment on the rooster.] I'll stop by later on today ✨✨✨
[ What the hell is that little ... picture. Anyway. ]
Thank you.
You mentioned you've been here longer, so you've more familiarity with the way things work. An acquaintance mentioned that the passage of time in our homelands is halted while we're here. Not that I doubt their integrity, but it sounds so strange I wanted to confirm if it was common knowledge. Do you know anything of it?
[There's nothing inscribed on it, but when he follows it, it'll lead to Kate in the middle of the park pacing back and forth. She's shivering. It's obvious from the way that she keeps rubbing her arms.
It's colder than Ormond. It feels like she should be able to see her breath, but she can't yet. It's just her. It's almost like having the Nurse blink through her, the cold pit of terror and dread in her stomach is there.
Or maybe that's the nausea, the bile she's desperately trying to bite back between hacking coughs. She knows better than to be near other people. She's infectious. Will make it harder for others, will hinder their escape--
[When Natori sees one of his dolls come back shortly after his own very close save with the Silence, he assumes the worst.
Jun gave him a clean bill of (spiritual) health earlier, so as far as he's concerned he's good to go-- he may still be fighting his own chills and nausea, but the only way they factor in is that when Natori shows up in the park after following the doll back at a run, he's doing it with a touristy South Sister sweatshirt layered under his jacket.]
Kate-- [He'd known it was her doll, and his initial reaction is relief that she's still moving, that he didn't find her trying to fight something off or on the ground because he couldn't make it in time. His second is to pause just out of her range and focus on if anything feels off. He can't pick up on any malevolent presences, but he's not sure if he would; he felt what he's sure was the Silence earlier today, but that doesn't mean that he'd be able to feel it at this distance if it was laying low inside a host.
His third is to take his jacket off and hold it out to her. It's light-weight, the sort of jacket you'd throw on in the end of spring more for protection from the sun and wind than for warmth, but it's still something.
[It's something, but she doesn't take it. Instead, she backs up from his kind offer instead, rapidly shaking her head, which causes her nausea to kick into overdrive.
It's not pretty what happens next, but it does happen, and once she's finished upchucking, she wipes her mouth with the back of her hand and rasps out her words.]
The Plague. [She starts, shaking her head. He won't know what she means, but she's frantic. The sickness is the same kind, had she touched something unknowingly? She doesn't want to spread it to him.]
She's here-
[If she were thinking rationally, she'd realize that she's not here, that something else happened, but she can't quite get through that line of logic through her instinct to survive. Run. Hide. Warn the others, Natori doesn't know-]
[It's not a paper doll because someone is RUDE and never GAVE Matoba one, so instead it's a letter simply written on a sheet of normal (not soggy) paper, precisely folded into thirds, and held out to Natori by one of Matoba's long, creepy shiki the next time he leaves his house on the 13th.]
[Matoba doesn't get a reply until sometime in the mid afternoon, which comes via legal-pad paper doll. It's obvious enough that the delay is not just from Natori sleeping in past noon, considering that Matoba's shiki returned to him in the morning.]
It's pickier about its terms than I expected. And it has a bit of an attitude, doesn't it?
[ He's left a quartet of little packages at Stepford house, and one of them has Natori's name written on it. It's a small box wrapped simply in red paper, with a note attached; it's written in very nice, but somewhat old-fashioned handwriting: ]
Dear Natori,
I hope this letter finds you in good health on this day. Christmas isn't a holiday that we celebrate in the Clover Kingdom, but it seems to be one that most here are aware of, so I hope it has been treating you kindly.
Though this is only a simple gift, I'd be very happy if you'd find it useful. Your assistance has allowed me some peace of mind, a valuable commodity in a place like this, and I hope I'll be able to return the favor in time. This island certainly seems intent on troubling us, but I believe we'll be able to weather it together.
Wishing you good health and safety,
Yours humbly, William Vangeance
[ The box contains ... another box! More specifically, a little wooden case with a lid that slides open, and a leather strap that lets it function as a carrying case. It's quite solidly made, making it mostly waterproof and able to weather a fair amount of damage. Inside is a pad of nice, sturdy paper and a pen. It has enough room to hold two or three more little tools.
Hopefully this will prevent another flood scenario in the future. ]
[ A note pushed underneath Natori's, on nice paper but not the finest, in a scroll and tied together with a pretty ribbon. There's a little painting of the lizard in the corner, but here's the problem... this handwriting is so bad, it's completely illegible. ]
名取周一
It was nice working with you earlier. We should make plans for later.
元旦快乐。 花城
[ And because he totally thought Natori signed his letter as "celebrity," he also adds: ]
幽霊王
[ In this entire letter, probably 一 and 王 are recognizable. ]
[ it's a little unceremonious, huh, to gift someone who lives in your own house... but jujuboys will be jujuboys, and they've found a way to suckerpunch Natori with their modest present. the term 'suckerpunch' used loosely, here— Natori's probably noticed Megumi and Yuuji holed up in the kitchen, doing god knows what for way too long.
wherever Natori's chosen to sleep or rest today, he'll find something on his pillow-cushion. Megumi and Yuuji are suspiciously nowhere in Stepford, for the moment.
